St. George’s Day 2016

On the 24th June 2016, Ilkeston District Scouts had their annual St. George’s Day Parade. The parade took place around the centre of Ilkeston and a church service was held in St. Mary’s.

It was the 10th Ilkeston’s turn to organise and lead the parade and service. The whole district was lead by a piper, followed by the Union Flag, St. George Cross and the District Flag. Following them were the six Scout Groups, 10th, 16th, 21st, 2nd, 4th and 8th, Explorers and SAS.

We started off at South Street car park, marched up to the market place, and went it to the church. Afterwards we marched down Market Street, along Coronation Street and back up South Street to the market place where an inspection took place by the Mayor and members of the District Team.

In a change from the traditional service, videos were shown celebrating the district.

Awards presented to the young people included: The Molly Castledine Award, presented to a young person who continues to scout through difficulty, and Chief Scout Awards which are the highest award in each section.
